If you missed the town's virtual flood zoom last night (Aug 10th) because you had better things to do like clipping your cuticles, you had a better evening than those of us who watched. I watched purely to find out who was up for reelection this time, as these 'info sessions' have been used most frequently to push a political candidate. Maybe Sara Cruz just needed an image boost. The only sharp person on the panel was Cailyn who knows her stuff and has done the heavy lifting of compiling data.
Where was 1st Ward Rosalee? She promised help with drains before the election. We've never heard from her since. Big surprise.
The short summary is that NOTHING impactful has been done the 4 years since Ida and there is no plan for measurable repairs on the table. It was an amateur dog and pony show with only vague concepts of a plan, none of which are new, and none presented with a clear timeline for execution. The town engineer stated that they are planning to [eventually?] follow the two year old $1.5 million dollar Remington and Vernon 2024 Drainage Report 'suggestions'...
The meeting itself wasn't announced or found on the town website. For those who may not use facebook or may not have been able to attend last night, the question was asked "when and if an action plan and timeline for implementation would be shared in summary on the town website?" nobody on the panel was quite sure. It felt like that was really over their heads to prepare a publicly available bullet point document with a schedule of completion goals, even though zoom's integrated ai summary would likely have done that for them.
Meanwhile, Bloomfield tax payers are footing the bill for a $200,000 contract with Tara Dowell PR company, but for the most pressing threat to life and safety there is no useful information on the town website, only vanity PR to flatter those who want to stay in power.
In a disingenuous attempt to pretend to care about what we suffer through every time there's a flood alert, the engineer asked us to "please share suggestions"...and "share photos of flooding" around town. He was serious. They have buried their heads so far up their self-dealing asses while collecting pensions all the while willfully ignoring the public outcry and requests for drains and flood assistance over the past 4 years. It's not like it hasn't been on the news.

So, to humor their request for information, please download and email ALL the flood documentation you have received or prepared over the past 4 years - photos and receipts for your drowned cars, piles of household items lost flooding, your flooded streets, bills for your new car(s), home repairs, anxiety meds, medical care due to stress...and videos of you crying and screaming from the burden of costs you're carrying due to their inaction.
The mayor shut down the Flood Committee in a petty mean girl display of jealousy to our detriment, rolls her eyes when the public speaks, and spends our money on sewer taxes like we're her open checkbook (save that for another post).
Don't let our valued neighbors' pain go unattended and our collective effort and expertise go to waste.
Attached are documents which have been submitted over the past four years at public meetings, including at the September 2024 council meeting which was standing room only... and the formal list of Recommendations submitted by the now defunct Flood Mitigation Committee last April at the Master Plan meeting at the Zoning board, which were hard copied to the town clerk, the mayor and the town council.
