Friends and fighters for democracy and justice,

The next big No Kings action is happening around the country on October 17, and again local progressive activists in Bloomfield, NJ are organizing a major action from 10 am to 12 noon at the Bloomfield Municipal Building. Five times since Trump took office we have organized actions involving hundreds of people each time there has been a national call to action to resist the Trump regime’s destructive and cruel policies. Each time we have held a brief rally, followed by all of us walking a short block to line both sides and up and down Bloomfield Avenue with our signs and chants and energy. Every time, many of the large number of cars and trucks passing between us honk their horns in solidarity with our No Kings message. We have felt for that short time the power of the people, truly, and it has been a great feeling.

Join with us the morning of the 17th by signing up at this link: https://www.mobilize.us/nokings/event/1032355/

As you may know, these nationally coordinated actions are happening to strengthen voter turnout leading up to and on November 3. Here is how it is explained at the No Kings website:

“For over a year, millions of people have come together to send a clear message: in America, we have no kings. Power does not belong to billionaires, strongmen, or politicians who believe they are above accountability. Power belongs to the people, but only if we use it.

“The people in power make decisions that affect our lives, our communities, and our future. Elections – our votes – determine who holds that power. Right now, our elections are under unprecedented attack. Efforts to weaken voting rights and make it harder for us to make our voices heard. No one person, no institution, and no political party gets to decide our leaders before voters do. In times like these, when our rights are threatened, we must work together to protect our elections and ensure every vote is counted.

“We are turning historic people power into direct voter power. No Kings: Vote Early, scheduled for October 17, is the critical next step in our strategy: this is an urgent, massive day of voter participation and election protection. As Election Day approaches and early voting begins soon in many states, casting a ballot will be a key tool for making our voices heard.”

We hope to see you on the morning of the 17th!
